When: Sunday February 18th, 2018. 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Where: Rolling Ridge Foundation Property. GPS and mapping programs tend to be inaccurate. The best way to find the volunteer meeting location is to turn onto Mission Road from Route 115 (a right-hand turn if coming from Charles Town, WV), go 6.5 mi. to where the double yellow lines stop and turn left onto the gravel road. We will meet at the Mission Road Kiosk that is on the left BEFORE the intersection of Floc Way, Tupelo Lane, and Mission Road.
Who: This volunteer opportunity is available to ANY friends of nature – Master Naturalists, hikers, bikers, and neighbors.
What: The focus of this volunteer activity will be the removal of invasive vegetation from a forest stand along Caddisfly Branch, one of the beautiful small streams that begin on the Rolling Ridge Property and flow to the Shenandoah River. The targeted invasive species will be the tree-girdling oriental bittersweet vine and the prolific seeder Japanese barberry.
What you should bring: Work gloves (leather is best), water bottle, bag lunch, sunglasses or eye protection. We have a good number of loppers for cutting vines, but bring a pair if you have them. We will bring jugs of drinking water and snacks.
