Volunteer: Help the Red Cross respond to local disasters

The American Red Cross of Central Appalachia serves 77 counties, including all of West Virginia and surrounding counties in Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia and Maryland.

Our urgent need for Disaster Action Team (DAT) members includes all of these areas.

As a DAT volunteer, you will help your community when a home fire or other disaster occurs. Your response will provide the care, comfort, compassion and resources to our neighbors when they need it the most. Volunteers provide assistance including emotional support, replacement of prescription medication, financial assistance for food, clothing and temporary lodging, and other critically needed items and referrals. Virtual disaster response has been implemented. If a virtual response is not possible, DAT response procedures will require maintaining social distancing (6 feet apart) and provide materials to the client without direct personal contact.

The Red Cross will provide all the training you need.

Other volunteer positions within our Disaster volunteer team include assessing the emergency and dispatching appropriately, follow up case work, mental health, health and spiritual services.
