Who We Are
The mission of Community Alternatives to Violence is to prevent abusive behavior by conducting educational programs for men and women and to raise awareness of respectful relationships in the community.
We believe that domestic violence is a choice. So nonviolence can become the choice.
What We Do
Community Alternatives to Violence works with individuals using violence in their relationships. We facilitate educational classes on abuse prevention and intervention throughout the Eastern Panhandle. Individuals are referred to us by government agencies and do come voluntarily. Our fees are determined by an income-based sliding scale. With many of our participants unemployed or underemployed, we do provide for community service options for those folks who would otherwise not be able to afford our classes.
We work with individuals to learn what healthy and respectful relationships are, how to develop empathy and compassion, how to accept personal responsibility for their choices, and how to become accountable.
